Lighter, Unique, and Better for the Planet

Why Wooden Sunglasses?

If you have never tried wooden sunglasses before, the first thing you will notice is how light they are. Most people pick up a pair, put them on, and immediately say something like "wait, these are wood?" They are up to 50% lighter than traditional plastic or metal frames, which means no pinching on your nose, no sliding down your face, and no marks behind your ears at the end of the day. You can wear them from morning to night and barely notice they are there.

Beyond the comfort, every pair is naturally one of a kind. Wood grain patterns vary from piece to piece, so your sunglasses will never look exactly like anyone else's. That is not a marketing line. It is just how wood works. And because wood is a renewable, biodegradable material with a small carbon and water footprint, you are choosing something better for the planet without giving up an ounce of style or performance.

Not All Eyewear is Created Equal

What Makes Joycoast Wooden Sunglasses Different?

Not all wooden sunglasses are created equal. The cheap pairs you find online are often thick, heavy, and look like someone carved them out of a cutting board. Joycoast sunglasses are designed in Chicago and handcrafted using multi-layer wood construction. That means thin layers of premium wood like ebony, walnut, and zebrawood are bonded with maple layers in between for strength and flexibility. The result is a frame that is sleek, slim, and modern looking, not bulky or gimmicky.

Every pair is made from FSC-certified wood sourced from responsibly managed forests. Spring-loaded hinges give the frames a comfortable flex fit and hold up to daily use. And if you look inside any pair of Joycoast sunglasses, you will find a small laser-engraved message: "It's gonna be a good day." That is our tagline, and it is the feeling we want you to have every time you put them on.

Polarized UV400 Lenses on Every Pair

Lens Quality and Protection

Every pair of Joycoast sunglasses comes with polarized lenses standard. There is no upgrade or upcharge.

Polarized lenses reduce glare from water, roads, snow, and other reflective surfaces, which makes them great for driving, golf, fishing, boating, and any time you are outside.

All lenses are UV400 rated, blocking 100% of UVA and UVB rays, and made from scratch-resistant polycarbonate for clear, sharp optics without distortion.

We carry a wide range of styles so you can find the pair that fits your face and your personality. Aviators, cat-eye, classic wayfarers, sporty wraps, round frames, oversized, and slim profiles are all in the lineup.

Tougher Than They Look

Built for Real Life

Wooden sunglasses sound delicate but ours are built for daily use. The spring-loaded hinges flex under pressure instead of snapping, and the layered wood construction adds strength without adding weight. They are great for driving, golf, the beach, festivals, boating, hiking, travel, and plain old everyday wear. Most styles are splash resistant for normal outdoor activity, and some are even designed to float.

When you are not wearing them, our optional cork folding case keeps them protected in your bag, backpack, or glovebox. Every pair also comes with a 12-month manufacturer's warranty. If something goes wrong with materials or craftsmanship, we take care of it.

Every Pair Plants 10 Trees

Sustainability You Can Feel Good About

Every pair of Joycoast sunglasses is made from FSC-certified wood, which means the forests it comes from are responsibly managed, replanted, and monitored. Wood is renewable, biodegradable, and requires far less energy and water to produce than plastic or metal. Even our cases are made from sustainable cork.

For every pair sold, we plant 10 trees through our partners at Trees for the Future and Eden Reforestation Projects. Those trees grow into forest gardens in Africa that provide food, create jobs, restore degraded land, and support entire communities. We have planted over 160,000 trees to date, and we are just getting started. Learn more about our sustainability mission.

FAQ

Wooden Sunglasses

Yes. Our sunglasses use multi-layer wood construction with spring-loaded hinges that flex under pressure instead of snapping. They are built for daily wear and come with a 12-month manufacturer's warranty. The optional cork case keeps them protected when you are not wearing them.

It depends on the construction. Our solid bamboo sunglasses do float, which makes them a great choice if you spend a lot of time on the water. Most of our other styles use multi-layer wood construction, where thin layers of premium wood are bonded with additional wood layers for added strength and flexibility. This layered approach makes the frames more durable and sleeker in profile, but the added density means they won't float. So if floating is a priority for you, look for our solid bamboo styles. If durability and a slim, modern fit matter more, our layered frames are the way to go. Either way, every pair is still incredibly lightweight and built for outdoor use.

Yes. Every pair of Joycoast sunglasses comes with polarized UV400 lenses standard. No upgrades or upcharges needed.

We offer Narrow, Standard, and XL frame sizes. Each product page includes frame width measurements to help you find the right fit. If you are between sizes or unsure, our customer support team is happy to help at support@joycoast.com. You can also visit our Lincoln Park, Chicago store to try them on in person.

Store them in a hard case or our optional cork case when not wearing them. Clean the lenses with the included microfiber cloth. Avoid leaving them in extreme heat or cold, like a car dashboard in direct summer sun, for extended periods. They are splash resistant for normal use, but we recommend against submerging most styles for long periods of time.

Other

We use a variety of sustainably sourced woods including ebony, walnut, zebrawood, bamboo, and others. Each wood type has a unique grain pattern and color, meaning no two pairs are ever exactly the same.

We plant 10 trees for every product sold through our reforestation partners, Trees for the Future and Eden Reforestation Projects. Over 180,000 trees planted and counting.
